Under Armour Protects Jordan Spieth Investment with Trademarks

You may have heard that Jordan Spieth is having a pretty good year. Under Armour, which Spieth endorses, is also having a good year. The company’s stock price is way up. Its CEO recently credited three of its endorses for the boom: Steph Curry, Misty Copeland, and Jordan Spieth.

As it did with Steph Curry, Under Armour appears to want to create a larger brand around Spieth via a trademarked logo. In late July, Under Armour filed three trademark applications for the pictured logo, which incorporates Spieth’s initials. The company used a similar convention when creating logos for Steph Curry (pictured) and Cam Newton.

Based on the trademark applications, Under Armour looks to sell Spieth-related golf gloves, sunglasses, golf shoes, and clothing.

On Thursday, Spieth will tee it up for the PGA Championship at Whistling Straits. Darren Rovell has already tweeted out Spieth’s outfits for the tournament. It will be interesting to see whether the new logo makes a surprise appearance.

While Spieth, the PGA Championship, and his logo are all exciting, I am more pumped for Misty Copeland’s Broadway debut in the musical “On the Town.” Hopefully, Under Armour gets moving on a Misty Copeland logo soon!
